Background

AbleDocs are global experts in document accessibility. They ensure every PDF, annual report, PowerPoint and Word document is “readable” and “useable” by all. Porter Hughes were commissioned to establish the AbleDocs brand strategy, visual identity and web presence and selected Blue Umbrella as the UX research and design partner.

We conducted interviews with stakeholders and customers in order to:

  • Identify and prioritize web content needs

  • Understand subtle differences in decision making across different markets (EU, US, CA)

  • Identify new business opportunities and customer pain points

Next, we evaluated competitors’ navigation, information architecture (IA) and content against the high priority information needs. We reviewed findings, collaborated on the site map and based copy writing direction on customer needs.

The information architecture (IA) and content were based on high priority information needs discovered in stakeholder and customer interviews. Shown here is a prototype of the site with new content.

The impact

We love partnerships and this project shows the impact of our work in a team.

  • The entire team - content, marketing, SEO, design and development benefited from learning about customer needs. Research findings acted as a North Star for setting priorities and making decisions.

  • We discovered 5 unaddressed customer pain points that could evolve to new business opportunities.

  • While the project is currently paused, we expect a website written in customer-friendly language, making a highly technical process feel less daunting.
